ABOUT

Many job seekers are struggling and perceive hiring managers to be seeking “unicorns”, applicants with a nearly impossible set of skills and expertise. It’s difficult and demoralizing.

I believe everyone has combinations of skills and experiences that set them apart in the job market. But many people aren’t used to looking broader or more deeply at what opportunities might sync with their skills and how to communicate their “unicorn-ness” to others.

But exploring broadly and digging deeper to see patterns and opportunities others haven’t is what I have done for the past 20+ years as a user researcher, journalist and author.

In the business world I excel at finding “Ideal Customer Profiles” and defining how to communicate with them. Now I’m applying that expertise in a different direction: Finding and distilling the “unicorn-ness” for individuals who are looking for new jobs or careers, a side hustle, or a more compelling ways to frame their expertise to current employers.

I first tested this process with friends, and they’ve found a lot of value in it. Then when I applied this process to myself it led me … here. I love gathering different forms of information, then digging deeper ( journalism background). I love talking with people and have done tons of user interviews. I prefer to work for myself or a smaller startup. And part of me really enjoys distilling an array of information into an clear, actionable options…aka writing reports. (Did I just admit that?)

Having done test runs with friends I am now opening this up to a heavily discounted “Proof of Concept” set of sessions: $120 for the package described on the homepage. I’ll do 6-8 of these and then see where to go from there.
